Everett Ward Systems Announces ObjGen 2.1
Newest Version
of Award-Winning Application and Object Generator for Visual
Basic
Features Enhancements and Additional Capabilities for the
Generation of Unbound Data Forms.
(Stratford, CT April 26, 2000) Everett Ward Systems today announced the latest release of its award winning Visual Basic code generator ObjGen 2.1. ObjGen has been enhanced to offer developers of VB applications new features that make the creation of unbound data forms and controls easier and with more functionality than previous versions.
New features in ObjGen 2.1 include the generation of Visual Basic data connected forms with a versatile "Query By Form" filtering mode, the creation of unbound checkbox controls to display data for Boolean and Yes/No table columns and the capability to generate unbound lookup field controls. A new editor has also been added to define and generate form level toolbar controls.
ObjGen 2.1 now generates forms with a "Query By Form" search and data filtering mode. With one click of a button, field criteria can be entered directly into each form control and is then applied to the form's underlying data class. The filtered data can then be viewed, navigated, updated or deleted directly by the form window. The data filter is preserved and redisplayed when reentering search mode to facilitate easy refinements to the search criteria. Criteria can be entered as simple data values or can be entered as more complex SQL expressions.
One of the most requested enhancements to ObjGen by existing users is the support for unbound form lookup field controls. With ObjGen 2.1, developers can now define unbound lookup field controls by specifying the data elements to define the association between id fields and their display values. ObjGen will generate all the necessary code and logic to display, insert, update and filter data in the table columns mapped to each unbound lookup field.
ObjGen 2.1 has also been enhanced to automatically generate checkbox controls in forms for columns that are defined as either Boolean or Yes/No fields. Again, ObjGen takes care of generating all the necessary code and logic to display, insert, update and filter data in the table column mapped to each checkbox control.
A new toolbar editor has also been added to ObjGen for the creation of form level toolbars. Developers can easily define toolbars and tool buttons controls using ObjGen's form editor. Form objects defined with toolbars are then generated with a toolbar child control with the specified number of tool buttons that can then be modified to perform operations for the form or application.
ObjGen 2.1 ships with frameworks and code templates to generate Visual Basic 5.0 and 6.0 applications and objects using ADO, RDO or DAO data access libraries. ObjGen is compatible with ODBC compliant databases including SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase, Microsoft Access 97 and Microsoft Access 2000.
Application frameworks and code templates are user modifiable and support user defined variable and object naming preferences. Code templates are defined using ObjGen's OTF (ObjGen Template File) language which provides access to ObjGen's internal objects and their properties.
ObjGen is a VB Online Magazine Editor's Choice award winner based on its high ratings for product functionality, technical support and overall value to Visual Basic developers.
